Day 2 ... admitted to KPJ Damansara Specialist Hospital

Hubby drove to KPJ Damansara Specialist Hospital while I was carrying Jaden on my lap and sponging him. Jaden cried saying he did not want to go to hospital and asked us to go home. I also called ING to inform them of Jaden's high fever and asked them to prepare letter of guarantee to KPJ Hospital.

We headed to the Emergency and Accident Unit. There was a few staff on duty. I carried Jaden down and told them "My son has high fever". There was no rushing and running, unlike those we watch on ER TV show. The staff direct me to a room, asked how old is Jaden, what's his weight, etc.  The nurse gave him fever suppository while I distracted Jaden. There was no cold show but the nurse started to sponge Jaden, more wet than the way I did.

After that, a doctor attended to Jaden. Two options were given to us:

1. Admit Jaden into the hospital for fever monitoring, blood test to find out the cause of the high fever and to be attended by pediatrician; or
2. To take Jaden home for own monitoring at home.

We chose Option 1 as we had never experience such a high fever of 40.3C and we would like Jaden to have the blood test to find out the cause of the high fever and to be treated and given the right medicine for his fever.

Thereafter, the hospital proceeded with admission procedures.

6.40 am - The nurse attempted to draw blood from Jaden for blood test but failed causing pain in Jaden

Thereafter, the staff brought us up to 2nd floor, the admission ward. Jaden had a single bed room. Initially, Jaden refused to stay in hospital but luckily, there was a television with cartoon channel for him to watch.

I applied for emergency leave from work to take care of Jaden. We wrote down a list of things that we need to pack and bring to the hospital. The first thing came to our mind is iPad. Hubby went back to freshen up and organise things. Pediatrician came to see Jaden at about 10am and said Jaden had acute tonsillitis.

Hubby came back to the hospital with my mother in-law.  She offered to help us out during this period but I told her we should be fine. As the earlier blood draw for blood test was unsuccessful, the pediatrician drew the blood herself. She informed us the blood test result should be out by lunch time. Hubby left hospital to send his mother to Klang to visit her elder sister.

 Jaden's hand was put on bandage for the hospital to give him antibiotic drip.

11am - 2nd round of nebuliser to clear phlegm

There were constantly nurses coming in and out of the room to check Jaden's fever temperature, give him medicine, nebuliser, etc and hospital staff to bring in food and clean the room. I was trying to catch some sleep but it is almost impossible. The room was also very cold as the air-con was set at 20C to help to bring down Jaden's fever. Jaden and I were fighting over the iPad and I only got to use it after convinced Jaden to sleep.

At about 2pm, I asked the nurse who came in and feed Jaden medicine about the blood test result. The nurse said Jaden had viral infection and no antibiotic is required. We have to wait for doctor to inform us when can Jaden be discharged from the hospital.

Hubby came back to hospital and I left the hospital at about 4.30pm to freshen up and catch some rest at home while I would be back after dinner to take care of Jaden in the hospital, if he still needs to stay in the hospital.

Hubby called at about 5.30pm+ and told me the pediatrician advised Jaden has bacteria fever and they would give him antibiotic drip. We were confused with the different interpretation of the blood test result. The pediatrician also advised that Jaden needs to be monitored another night in the hospital as he still have fever of 38-39C.

I picked up Jared from school, came back for dinner and sent Jared to Kumon. By this time, I had not slept for almost 40 hours and I wasn't feeling good.  I went to see GP and the GP told me I had fever with bad throat infection and give me 2 days MC.

By the time I picked up Jared from Kumon and sent him home, it's almost 10pm. I was not fit to move any further. I told Hubby about it and he asked me to rest at home. The poor Hubby did not have his pajama or any fresh clothes to change.

After medicine, I went to sleep.

Day 1 ... The start of Fever Marathon and Levain Boulangerie Patisserie

Jaden woke up at 6am and came to sleep on our bed. I felt the warm in his body and took his body temperature. It was above 38C.

We fed him with his milk and gave him fever medicine. Later in the morning, while I was running my usual wet market shopping, Hubby took Jaden to see GP near our house. The GP said Jaden's throat is infected and prescribed him with antibiotic, fever and cough medicine.

After lunch, my plans are to visit our 3rd Auntie in General Hospital, have afternoon tea at Levain and go to temple for prayer.

We visited our 3rd Auntie in General Hospital. She had operation on her throat as her airway was closing and causing her difficulty in breathing. She was trying to eat green bean paste prepared by the hospital but had choke. She couldn't swallow food properly. A tube was connected to her throat. The nurse used a vacuum to suck and clear phlegm from the tube. It was so heartache to see her in the hospital.

After the hospital visit, I suggested to have afternoon tea at Levain Boulangerie Patisserie. I wanted to bring my mother in-law there. I have read so much and heard the good review on this cafe.

The concept of the cafe was interesting with good selection of fresh breads, pastries, pizza, cakes, etc. Probably the cafe was too packed with customers and busy, I didn't like the feel of it. You have to look or wait for seat, self service, queue to pay and inform the cashier your table number and then, the staff will serve your drinks to your table.

The afternoon tea cost us RM62.10 for the few things that we had.

My mother in-law was tired and suggested to go home. We did not make it to the temple for our prayer.

At 7pm, Jaden's fever shot up to 40.3C. It was scary! We put fever suppository but Jaden made a fuss of it and took it out. I quickly sponge him and fed him his fever medicine. After a while, the fever temperature came down.

After 4 hours, Jaden's fever temperature went up again. At 11pm+, while Jaden fell asleep, we put fever suppository. Unfortunately, after 1.5 hours the temperature did not come down but shot up to 40.2C. We sponge him and fed him with his fever medicine and after a while, the fever temperature came down.

I couldn't sleep the whole night but constantly sponging Jaden and checking his body temperature. I felt very discomfort and not at ease. After 2.5 hours from his fever medicine, I noticed his fever temperature on the rise again. It was worrying as it was just 2.5 hours since his last fever medicine intake. Finally at about 5am, when Jaden's temperature hit 39.5C we rushed Jaden to hospital.

What a Weekend and Disappointing Shrek The Musical

My mother in-law came to stay with us as she planned to visit our 3rd Auntie in hospital, her friend who stay in our neighbourhood and suffered from lung cancer and thereafter to visit her sister in Klang.

It was Jaden's kinder Parents Teacher Day where we had to go to the kindergarten to review Jaden's learning and performance in school. Jaden has been naughty lately and didn't want us to go to his kindergarten to meet his teachers.

Our review was at 8.30am. Hubby and I went to see the teachers. The review was not that bad after all. Jaden is a quick learner and he stops once he thinks he is good enough, which he does not attempt to excel further.

After the review with teachers, we left the kindergarten and heard funny sound coming from my car. We drove to our neighborhood tyre shop and asked them to check out my car.

The first technician said the sound came from the right rear of the car. He checked the rear tyres but could not find anything. Thereafter, another technician came with cigarette on his hand and took a drive of my car. He said the funny sound came from right front of the car.

He checked the front right tyre and saw this nail on my car tyre. What a start of Saturday morning!

Thereafter, I had my usual Saturday errands to run.

Mother in-law visited her friend who stay in our neighborhood and suffered from lung cancer. They used to do social works together.

In the evening, we had 4 tickets for Shrek The Musical from our Auntie YC.

The musical was at Plenary Hall of Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre. We planned to have dinner there before the musical starts at 8pm.

There were not many choices of restaurant in KL Convention Centre. Jared chose Kenny Rogers and we had dinner there.

The restaurant requires improvement on its cleanliness. The floor was wet and dirty. I informed the cashier and told her it's dangerous too.

At the foyer of the Plenary Hall, lots of people taking photos with Shrek and Fiona cut out boards. They were also people selling Shrek souvenirs ie T-shirt, Shrek hair band, Fiona hair band and program book, all at RM35 each. We bought the Shrek The Musical T-shirt for Jared for remembrance.

Surprisingly, the hall was not full. Lots of people said the tickets are expensive and indeed they are.

My aunt bought RM390 category of tickets for us (out of RM190, RM290, RM390, RM490 and RM590) and we thought we should be sitting in the middle of the hall. But we were wrong. Our seats were way up, higher, towards the end of the hall.

The musical was disappointing. I must say the Shrek movie is much nicer. The story line, the songs and pace are not interesting.

During the 20 minutes intermission, we had coffee at the foyer and bumped into Fatboybakes and family at the cafe. He shared the same comment and opinion of the musical.

Luckily, the 2nd set of the musical was slightly more interesting. By that time, Jaden kept on asking me "when can we go home?" and "how long more?".

It was a 2.5 hours musical. Overall, the musical is disappointing after having watched the interesting Shrek movie.

Jaden was very quiet on the way home.

Carnation's Kitchen Secrets and Cooking Workshop with Amy Beh

Today, I brought my 3rd Auntie from Kluang to Tesco Kepong. She wanted to have a walk there and I wanted to do my groceries shopping at Tesco too. 

As we went up the escalator, I saw this banner on Carnation's Evaporated Creamer. It was written "Kitchen Secrets Cooking workshop with Amy Beh".

Amy Beh is my idol. In fact, she's my first baking teacher and her book "At Home with Amy Beh" by The Star is the very first cooking book that I refer to and had my hands on and ... they work! After several successful attempts, it gave me the confidence to cook and bake more. Nowadays, I always search and refer to her recipes on The Star Online's Kuali.

When we were there, it was 12pm+ and the cooking workshop was at 2.30pm. I saw Amy Beh getting ready and preparing for the cooking workshop. I couldn't recognise her as she looked younger than what I remembered her to be from her cooking book. I spoke to her and she must had seen the excitement in me and suggested that I register for the workshop.

We only need to pay RM10 for the workshop and received a goodies bag with the above items ... 2 cans of Carnation evaporated creamer, 2 Carnation recipe books with recipes created by Amy Beh, a towel and a mug in a recycle bag. I registered for my 3rd Auntie and also for my youngest sister to attend the workshop together.

Amy Beh first demonstrated how to cook Nasi Dagang. The recipes are all available in the recipes book given to us.

Once the rice is cook, stir in shallots and ginger and toss well. Amy Beh did not recommend to fry the shallots or ginger as the taste does not go well with Nasi Dagang.

The second dish that Amy Beh demonstrated was Thai Green Curry.

The green curry that we cook at home is from ready made paste that we bought from Bangkok. This recipe from Amy Beh shows how to make and blend green curry paste from scratch.

What I like about this recipe is that it replaces coconut santan with Carnation evaporated creamer, which is healthier.

There was a question from the floor that asked for the age of Amy Beh. There were lots and lots of guesses from the floor. Some guessed she's in her 40s, while others guessed she's in her 50s. Amy Beh was so happy with our guesses.

 To our surprise, Amy Beh is 67 years old this year.

She thanked Carnation for making her food healthier, taste nicer and made her looks so much younger. She also believes in living happier as laughter make a person looks younger too.

The 3rd food that was demonstrated by Amy Beh is the Steamed Chocolate Cupcakes with Raisins.

The cupcakes were steamed for 10-12 minutes. I've never tried steamed cupcakes and find this to be very interesting.

Amy Beh said she likes to steam cupcakes because the cakes are more moist and have softer texture.

Amy Beh also brought some cupcakes that she pre-made the night before. She added Kahlua and almond nibs to these cupcakes.

All of us had enough cupcakes to taste.

The last dish that Amy Beh demonstrated was the Creamy Soup of Happiness.

She added 2 cans of evaporated ceamer into the big pot of soups. Initially, my sister and I did not think the soup would be nice as it's very seldom for soup to have evaporated creamer added.

But after we've tried it, we thought the soup was nice. It tasted like Fish Head Noodle soup. Amy Beh also suggested that we may add mee hoon to the soup and have it for lunch ... which is what we are going to have for tomorrow's lunch.

My sister and I brought Amy Beh's cooking books "At Home with Amy Beh" all the 3 series by The Star for her to autograph.

I am glad that we went to Tesco Kepong today. Otherwise, we would have missed this interesting cooking workshop and meeting up with Amy Beh.
